Research Interests
Our research group has focused the efforts on the development of well-tailored energy materials through molecular design based on the knowledge of inorganic chemistry. The main subject of our research is coordination compounds, particularly metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). MOFs are well-ordered crystalline solids, mostly composed of metal–oxygen coordinating clusters as the secondary building units (SBUs) and aromatic organic linkers. Large surface areas and porosities as well as a high degree of tunability for both the organic and inorganic building blocks of their structures enable the potential use of MOFs in diverse applications including gas storage and separation, membranes, catalysis, sensing, and biomedical imaging. The combination of tunability and modularity with diverse metal building blocks and organic linkers has generated a myriad of MOFs, thus allowing their applications in diverse fields. Among the interesting characteristics of MOFs, we are focusing on flexible MOFs as our research object to understand and develop functional materials because they show distinctive properties that cannot be achieved with rigid MOFs.
