Abstract
The performance of P300-based BCIs is dependent on the user's metal state. This study aims to evaluate the effect of distraction caused by language processing including speaking and listening, which are common daily activities, when performed simultaneously with the control of a P300 BCI. P300 BCI performance was worse when used concurrently with speaking than when used with listening or moving the mouth. Our findings suggest that listening to brief stories have minimal influence but speaking distracts the users’ attention from usage of P300 BCI.
