Abstract
A new porous 3D metal-organic framework (MOF), [Mn3(2,7-ndc)3(dmf)2]n, having a trinuclear manganese cluster unit as a secondary building unit has been synthesized using 2,7-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid (2,7-ndc) as a rigid and bent dicarboxylate linker, where solvent N,N’-dimethylformamide (dmf) molecules were ligated to the framework metal centers. In the framework, a trinuclear manganese unit is connected to adjacent trinuclear units by two bridging μ2-carboxylates, which lead to an infinite 1D columnar structure. The trinuclear manganese cluster unit in the 1D columnar structure is serving as a four connecting node. The 1D column is further connected to four adjacent 1D columns using 2,7-ndc units to form a microporous 3D MOF. If the ligated solvent molecule at the metal center was removed, the metal site with reduced coordination number could serve as a potential exposed metal site for gas sorption and metal ion assisted catalysis.
