Abstract
Mobile IP is a proposed standard protocol by the IETF to enable node mobility in the Internet, It provides seamless network connection for mobile nodes. IP multicast is an efficient mechanism to enable group communication in the Internet. Mobile IP proposes two schemes to support multicast for mobile nodes, which are bi-directional tunneling and remote subscription. Most of the existing multicast mechanisms for mobile nodes use the proposed IETF schemes based on IP multicast routing protocols. There are two major problems to support multicast for mobile nodes, non-optimized packet delivery path with bi-directional tunneling and high distribution tree construction cost with remote subscription. Explicit multicast (Xcast) is a new kind of protocol to support Internet multicast. In this paper, we have considered the problem of multicast for mobile nodes.
