Abstract
This paper examines a variety of configurations using photovoltaic (PV) boost converter modules for maximum power point operation. The modules are locally controlled with maximum power point tracking. The PV modules are connected in parallel, series, and series with a buck converter. Although the PV modules operate autonomously based on PV parameters, the system converges to maximum output power operation. This provides a scalable solution with simple control of the PV converter module. The three configurations that use the PV boost convert modules are simulated under three loads. The characteristics, advantages, and limitations of each configuration are examined.
