Abstract
In this paper, accuracy of a boron meter was improved, compared to a commercially designed boron meter, using a multi-detector. In pressurized water reactors (PWRs) in Korea, many boron meters have been used for continuous monitoring of boron concentration in reactor coolant. However, it is difficult to practically use the boron meters because of their low accuracy. In this work, using a multi-detector was studied to improve the boron meter accuracy. With the multi-detector, count signals were contaminated with noise to make themselves like field measurement data, and thousand times analyses were performed to obtain average and standard deviations of boron concentration errors. Finally, average error was decreased from 5.95 ppm to 2.07 ppm and its standard deviation was decreased from 0.64 ppm to 0.23 ppm using the multi-detector, which showed huge improvement of the boron meter accuracy.
