Abstract
The characteristics of the Transfer Matrix introduced in the modified power method have been studied. Since it may be easily mistaken for the Fission Matrix, the differences between the Fission Matrix and Transfer Matrix have been discussed. Theoretically it can be concluded that the Fission Matrix is eigenmode dependent, while the Transfer Matrix can keep the balance of all the eigenmodes correctly. The numerical tests confirm further that the Fission Matrix cannot give correct higher mode solutions if it's tallied with a coarse mesh, and the Fission Matrix tallied with i-th mode neutron weights can only give a correct i-th mode solution, while it cannot give exact solutions for the other modes.
