Abstract
The efficiency of electromagnetic pump with a mass flow rate of 20 kg/s and a developed pressure of 4 bar for sodium thermohydraulic test is analyzed in the both forced and natural cooling conditions. The electromagnetic pump is needed for performance test of scaled down Intermediate Heat Exchanger (IHX) of Prototype Gen-IV Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor (PGSFR) with power of 150 MWe. Temperature distribution by heat generation and transfer in the components of electromagnetic pump are calculated through numerical analysis method using ANSYS Fluent. Temperature distributions of electromagnetic pump in the natural cooling condition and forced cooling condition were ranged between 610∼680 K and 550∼610 K by calculation. The efficiency was 1.2% higher in the natural cooling condition than in the forced cooling condition. In terms of the input power of electromagnetic pump, such an efficiency increase was predicted tosave 1.31 kW while 0.4 kW was need to forced air circulation.
