A new multi-channel access scheme and associated network architecture for single-hop WDM optical networks are proposed in this paper. The proposed architecture uses Central Scheduling Node (CSN) for transmission coordination among many users, which is one of the key issues in single-hop WDM networks. The data channels, source nodes, and destination nodes are selected by CSN in a very simple manner. Our scheme relieves the processing overhead which is caused in existing distributed scheduling algorithms, at all nodes in the network. CSN is simple in architecture and can be implemented easily. In respect to network performance, the maximum obtainable throughput is up to that of the ideal output queuing because of collision free scheduling by CSN. We use the MQMS(multi-queue multi-server) model for performance analysis.
