Abstract
A commonly used buffer, 2,2-bi(hydroxymethyl)-2,2',2 "-nitrilotriethanol (Bis-Tris) coordinates lanthanide(III) ion strongly in water to form molecular species that are highly active for the hydrolysis of a phosphate diester, bis(4-nitrophenyl) phosphate.
