Abstract
A study was conducted to demonstrate electrical energy storage in ferroelectric polymer nanocomposites, containing surface-functionalized BaTiO3 nanoparticles. The study was conducted to integrate complementary elements, such as high dielectric permittivity from the inorganic dopants and high breakdown strength from the polymer matrix for a significantly enhanced energy density. It was also demonstrated an average energy density from each constitute needs to be implemented, to achieve a high energy density. It was found that the presence of organic surface layers on the particle provides better compatibity between the fillers and the polymer matrix, ensuring uniform composite film at higher filler concentrations. The study also demonstrated the dominant role dielectric permittivity of the polymer matrix in determining the energy density of the nanocomposite.
