Abstract
Interactions of sulfate-promoted iron oxide, SO2- 4Fe2O3, with pyridine or ammonia were investigated by means of infrared spectroscopy and temperature-programmed desorption/reaction coupled with mass spectrometry. Both molecules reacted with the sulfate group upon adsorption followed by heating to change the structure of the sulfate group and the acid properties of SO2- 4Fe2O3. They also promoted the decomposition of the sulfate group and its removal from the surface. These effects were more pronounced for pyridine. © 1989.
