dc.description.abstract Single-phase PWM rectifiers have increasingly been important in inverter-based resources (IBRs) as they improve power factor and enable bidirectional power flow control for stable grid operations. However, high-speed switching generates EM noises which can be mitigated by spread spectrum modulation (SSM). While effective for EM noise reduction, the SSM can increase THD and distort current control. This paper compares the impact of orthogonal signal generation (OSG) methods—Time Delay (TD), All-Pass Filter (APF), and Second-Order Generalized Integrator (SOGI)—on a virtual DQ transformation under the SSM operation using voltage-oriented control (VOC). Experimental results with a 2-kW PWM rectifier prototype demonstrate that although the SOGI achieves the lowest THD without the SSM, the TD provides the most robust performance under the SSM, offering insights into the OSG selection for EMI-compliant PWM rectifiers. -
