dc.description.abstract Shocks and Turbulence in Merging Galaxy Clusters: Outstanding Issues

Dongsu Ryu (UNIST, Korea)

Galaxy clusters emerge from successive mergers of clumps throughout the history of the universe, and during the course, the intracluster medium (ICM) of hot plasma is produced. In the ICM, shocks, and turbulence are induced and magnetic fields and cosmic rays are generated. A comprehensive picture of the formation and evolution of galaxy clusters and the astrophysical processes in the ICM has been established through radio and X-ray observations, as well as theoretical and simulation studies. Yet, there are a number of issues that remain to be further explained. In this talk, I will discuss some of them, specifically regarding shocks and turbulence.
