dc.description.abstract An amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) from wedge-shaped cells of dye-doped glycerol sandwiched between two cholesteric liquid crystal films has been studied. Upon laser excitation at nearly normal incidence on a slightly wedged cell with a wedge angle of 1.2°, ASE occurs along the direction oblique (about 45°) to the surface normal. This effect was interpreted by increasing the incidence angle and consequent shift of a photonic band upon successive internal reflection in the wedge cell. -
