dc.description.abstract We present results on the heating and acceleration of heavy ions by ion beams using a new developed hybrid code, EMC-eHybrid, that conserves total energy and momentum. In the 2D hybrid simulations the right and left handed resonant modes (RHR/LHR) are excited by the ion beam instability and the Alfv´en ion cyclotron (AIC) wave is also grown by the ion temperature anisotropy. The background heavy ions interact with the self-generated electromagnetic waves and their temperature depends on mass and charge. We find that the background heavy ions heat up more as their mass increases when they have equal charge and their kin
etic temperatures increase with mass when they have equal charge to mass ratio. We then discuss wave-particle interactions and the observed solar wind scaling T∝M for heavy ions.
