dc.description.abstract We show that in an asymmetric, weakly coupled system, an anti-stokes population transfer may occur via. low-energy, site-specific impulsive collisions. This phenomenon is a quantum analogue of the coupled harmonic oscillator with collisions, which introduces an anti-symmetric component to an originally symmetric oscillation. There may exist interesting connection between this mechanism and the emission of anti-Stokes photoluminescence in weakly coupled GaAs/AlGaAs asymmetric double quantum wells in the low-temperature and low-intensity limits. -
