dc.description.abstract We report the generation mechanisms for coherent LO phonons in GaAs/AlGaAs multiple quantum wells. When the excitation energy is near the exciton resonance, the dominant generation mechanism in a quasi-2D quantum well appears to be impulsive stimulated Raman scattering. -
