Mechanical element design requires a number of repeated mathematical calculations and trial-and-error process.To reduce time and labor in a simple shaft-bearing part design, web-based decision support software for bearing selection is developed. This system supports load distribution in a shaft, and bearing recommendation for various materials from the bearing database which is connected with material database. Bearing database is operated as open database, so that user can easily add new bearing information. To help designers, CAD files of the bearings are also provided from the bearing list. The system enables concurrent design by offering web-based user interface, thus users can access the system and share the design information anytime through the internet. As a result, user can simulate various design conditions in a short time, select optimized bearing from the recommended bearing list.
