The patch-type magnetostrictive transducers have been successfully used to generate ultrasonic elastic waves. This research presents quasi-static analysis of a guided-wave system in the frame of the finite element method. The integrated magneto-mechanical analysis for magnetic circuits, a magnetostrictive patch, and an elastic waveguide is carried out to predict the behavior of the system. Due to the nonuniform-magnetic field distribution in the magnetostrictive circular patch, piezomagnetic coupling constants of each finite element on the patch are determined by a nonlinear magnetostrictive curve. The wave radiation characteristics of the transducer obtained by the present numerical investigation agreed with those by experiments.
