dc.description.abstract Metal air batteries are promising candidates for a clean and efficient energy storage in the future, the development of carbon based inexpensive non-precious metal ORR catalyst has becoming one of the most notable topics in this field. Recently, carbon nanomaterials doped with heteroatom are highly attractive materials for use as electrocatalysts, and Fe- and N-doped graphene has a high catalytic activity toward ORR, and their properties lead to very promising applications. Herein we report carbon nanofiber (CNF) incorporated Fe-N-codoped graphene nanoplatelets (Fe@NGnP) via simple and novel approach for the synthesis of precious metal-free CNF catalyst having high catalytic property to ORR. By inserting a small amount of Fe@NGnP to CNF, the catalyst exhibits substantially improved activity for ORR evidenced by a rotating ring disk electrode and a hybrid Li-air battery experiment. This new approach for the preparation of Fe@NGnP-embedded CNF offers synthetic control of morphology and Fe and N functionality for the oxygen reduction electrocatalysts. -
