Abstract
In this paper, the modified power method originally introduced by Booth for one-dimensional one-group neutron transport Monte Carlo simulation, has been extended to multi-dimensional continuous energy Monte Carlo simulations with a generalized procedure employing a transfer matrix. Due to the degeneracy of the eigenmodes of the transfer matrix for multi-dimensional problems, more subregions are adopted than the required number of eigenmodes, and a new transfer matrix is derived. Application of the extended method to a 3D whole core problem demonstrated the abilities of the modified power method for practical problems.
