Recently, bioprinting technology has gained attentions as a viable option to overcome current limitations in producing artificial skin. 3D skin-like cellular construct can be produced with the technology because it can fabricate a computer designed 3D freeform structure with living cells, biomaterials and biomolecules. Many researchers believe that a biomimetic cellular structure will enhance the efficiency of artificial regeneration of tissue. In this aspect, various kinds of bioprinting technology have been developed for the study of the artificial skin. The results showed that the technologies can produce multi-layered, skin-like construct composed of various types of skin cell including fibroblast, keratinocyte and endothelial cell. And an enhanced healing of skin wound was successfully demonstrated with the new technologies. In this paper, bioprinting technologies and bio-ink systems were reviewed, which are used for the regeneration of artificial skin. Then corresponding experimental results were introduced. Future directions and current obstacles of bioprinting technology to achieve an ultimate goal were also discussed.
